How long have you been at F&A/SRC?
I have been working with Anthony Falco since 1997. At that time, Anthony had a solo, general law practice. I found Anthony a pleasure to work with, and apparently I did enough that he decided to keep me on. His practice shifted gears when he created Falco & Associates/Senior Resource Center, with the focus on elder law and estate planning. I continued to do Anthony’s general law work for a while longer, until Anthony decided that the firm was going to focus entirely on elder law and estate planning.
Why is estate planning important?
Estate planning is important because it allows people to put their wishes into place while they are still competent and able to do so. If done correctly and in time, it can help to preserve assets for the people that a person wants to leave the assets to. It allows a person to choose who is going to handle their business affairs and to make their health care decisions in the event that they become physically and/or mentally incompetent to do so. In short, estate planning allows a person to determine what is to be done with their assets in the event that they are unable to handle their own affairs.
What do you find most rewarding about what you do?
I’ve enjoyed estate planning and Medicaid law because I feel that I am helping people who are in need. No one expects or wants to die, or become incompetent, and yet it happens every day. If planning hasn’t been done, the consequences can be emotionally and financially devastating. Part of our job is to do the best with the situation that our clients find themselves in, and in the end the result usually puts them in a better position.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time around the house and with my family. The kids have grown and on are their own, so I’ve had a bit more time for hobbies, like golf. When that gets too frustrating, we’re close enough to the beach to spend some time there. I’ve started hiking in the past year or so, and hope to climb a mountain or two this year.
